The US start-up Magnomer claims to have developed a solution to effectively separate label material from beverage bottle flakes during the recycling process.
As the company says, PET beverage bottles are often wrapped with PET-G shrink labels, which contaminate the PET recycling stream and degrade the quality of rPET. The Magnomer process applies Magnetizable inks - transparent or in different colors - to the shrink labels using standard label printing devices.
During the recycling process, the magnetic label flakes are separated from the PET flakes by a magnet.
