Lifocolor at Fakuma 2026: Masterbatches for PET bottles, recycling and food contact applications

1:10 min Food, Additives
Lichtenfels, Germany

At Fakuma 2026 Lifocolor will showcase Velvet PET. This product gives PET bottles the velvety-matt feel of HDPE and helps brands to switch materials. Visitors will also find laser-markable, NIR-detectable black masterbatches and the company will unveil its newly restructured portfolio by application profile in response to Amending Regulation (EU) 2025/351 on food contact.

Material Change & Regulatory Requirements: Velvet PET for Sensory Single-Material Designs

With Velvet PET, Lifocolor presents an innovative masterbatch that gives PET bottles the velvety-soft feel of HDPE extrusion blow-moulded bottles. This solution enables brand manufacturers in the cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical sectors to combine emotional brand experiences with the environmental benefits of PET. Particularly in light of the PPWR, Velvet PET enhances recyclable monomaterial design. The additive masterbatch can be processed on existing ISBM lines and is approved for food contact.

PPWR innovation: Laser-markable & NIR-detectable black masterbatches

Lifocolor combines two key requirements in a single product: dark packaging remains detectable in recycling sorting plants whilst also allowing permanent laser marking without the use of printing inks. This trade fair highlight is complemented by further PPWR solutions: NIR-detectable silver masterbatches for authentic metallic finishes without coating, as well as the LIFOCYCLE portfolio, which offers recyclable colour masterbatches, colour matching in rPET and product protection for recycled materials.

Diversity for consumer goods: decorative effects and new colour trends

Lifocolor is showcasing new decorative highlights for packaging and consumer goods. These include a hologram effect with an iridescent depth effect, a versatile range of granite-effect finishes in sandstone and cork looks, and competitively priced metallic finishes. All effect masterbatches are food-safe and suitable for standard processing methods up to 280–300 °C. Visitors can also gain exclusive insights into the trend colour range for 2028, as well as take home the latest colour charts and materials from ‘Shades of Inspiration 2027’.
