The Future of PET Packaging: Crystal-Clear Plasmax Coating and its Role in Recycled PET
Philipp Langhammer, Product Manager Barrier Technology
This presentation will explore the groundbreaking advancements in barrier coating technology, its critical role in sustainable PET packaging, and how this innovation is shaping the future of the circular economy in the packaging industry.
Recycled PET (rPET) is on the rise, driving the circular economy by turning old PET bottles into new ones.
However, the use of rPET in the beverage industry presents some new challenges regarding varying material quality and product protection. This has driven a surge in demand for recyclable barrier coatings, especially in the Carbonated Soft Drinks (CSD) and Water segments.
The combination of rPET with innovative SiOx barrier coatings provides a particularly powerful solution: maintaining crystal-clear packaging and superior product protection, preventing the migration of foreign substances, and ensuring full bottle-to-bottle recyclability.

PET Bottle Manufacturing – The Path to Optimal Efficiency and Sustainability
Sudha Jebadurai, President
Ralph Elder, VP of Sales & Marketing

It is essential for every PET bottle producer to introduce sustainable products that will excel in today’s marketplace. This includes a well-trained workforce, line efficiency, the use of quality recycled material and lightweight designs, followed up by verification testing.
Automated quality testing as well as digitalization of data to provide quick and accurate feedback on the performance of the bottle and the monitoring of trends to make immediate changes to bring the process back to the baseline are necessary – helping line efficiency and quality. This also facilitates utilization of AI tools for predictive analytics and targeted maintenance.
However, it is important to note that a large factor in the success of the automation, data and testing is having a highly knowledgeable, trained team. As companies throughout the world continue to move in this direction, it is important that they have the necessary knowledge and tools to optimize their production.

Preform E-Beam, the Future of Beverage Packaging Sterilization: Water & Chemical-Free
Jochen Hirdina, Vice President Plastics Division
Cora Hanesch, Product Development Plastics Technology

As the demands on food quality and safety continue to increase, we would like to look at Krones’ development in the field of aseptic production solutions. With a roadmap, we can observe the innovative trends from wet to dry sterilization of bottles and the even more popular chemical preform sterilization. What are the requirements and challenges? How can we continue to improve?
This is where E-Beam technology plays an important role, especially in terms of resources and environmental protection.
With one of the most stable processes and a high “log reduction rate” despite low energy consumption, E-Perform sterilization will soon prove to be an indispensable solution.
After a brief introduction to the principle of E-Beam, we can introduce the Krones module that is placed between the preform heating oven and the blowing wheel.
Finally, we can list what the real advantages of this unique solution are.
