Gneuss MRS Extrusion System as a key element in a complete process chain at BG Plast’s Open House in Italy
During an Open House at BG Plast – a specialist in the field of thermoforming sheet extrusion - in Marnate, Italy, from 25th to 27th March, the Gneuss MRS Extrusion System will play a central role. The whole process chain from the dosing of PET bottle flakes, via the extrusion and filtration of plastic melts as well as the subsequent sheet production through to the thermoforming of food-grade packaging will be shown.
Gneuss Kunststofftechnik will present the simple and high-performance integration of their MRS Extrusion Technology in a complete sheet production line in cooperation with the machine manufacturers BG Plast, Italy, and WM Wrapping Machinery, Switzerland.
On the line installed in BG Plast’s production hall, the washed PET bottle flakes are fed without predrying and crystallization directly via a gravimetric 3-component dosing system (Woywod) and a metal separator to the Gneuss Multi Extrusion System. The untreated polyester will be intensively decontaminated, vented and processed with a throughput rate of max. 500 kg/h with the special rotation extruder MRS 110, which makes use of a simple water-ring vacuum system, and will be filtered with the fully- automatic Gneuss Filtration System Type RSFgenius 90 without any pressure and/or process disturbances.
The melt will then be led to BG Plast’s downstream sheet line with polishing stack, coating system, sheet accumulator and winder. The semi-finished sheet product will then be led to WM Wrapping Machinery’s thermoforming machine and thermoformed to packaging trays.
The visitors to this Open House can check the high transparency and good surface properties of the food-grade packaging directly on site.
The project manager Dr. Carl-Jürgen Wefelmeier points out: „It is absolutely no problem to combine our MRS Extrusion System as well as our filtration systems with components from other manufacturers. Also existing lines can be easily retrofitted, so that pre-drying and crystallization will become redundant and an approval for use with food products, even if processing recycled material, can be obtained”.

The visitors can take a shuttle service directly after the Forum to the Open House at BG Plast.
