Spectra unveil new PET jar as part of 55% recycled content initiative

Spectra Packaging is launching two new PET jar ranges as the first products to support its future PCR55 initiative, which aims to establish 55% recycled content as the company's new standard.

The move represents the next stage in Spectra’s recycled content journey. Following the introduction of PCR10 in 2018 and PCR35 in 2021, the business is now looking beyond current legislative requirements and towards a future where higher levels of recycled content become the norm rather than the exception.

The first products in the PCR55 journey

The new Classico and Rotondo PET jar ranges are the first products to launch under the PCR55 banner.

The Classico range launches initially in 50ml, 100ml, 150ml, 200ml, 250ml, 300ml and 400ml capacities. Featuring a contemporary straight-sided profile, the jars are Injection Stretch Blow Moulded (ISBM) to deliver excellent clarity and consistency.

Each jar contains 55% post-consumer recycled content as standard and achieves a Green rating under the UK’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM).

Currently in development, the Rotondo range offers a softer, more distinctive silhouette for brands seeking greater differentiation whilst maintaining strong environmental credentials. When launched, the new jar range will perfectly compliment Spectra’s recently released 500ml, 250ml and 100ml Rotondo bottles.

Supporting a circular future

Over recent years, 35% recycled content represented a progressive position within the packaging industry. However, with the introduction of measures such as the Plastic Packaging Tax and forthcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) targets in Europe, recycled content expectations continue to increase.

Spectra’s response is to remain ahead of the curve by establishing a future direction of 55% post-consumer recycled content as standard.

As with the company’s existing recycled PET and HDPE ranges, all PCR55 products will be manufactured using Prevented Ocean Plastic (POP) sourced materials.

PET remains one of the most widely recycled materials globally, integrating seamlessly into established recycling infrastructures. By combining this highly recyclable material with 55% post-consumer recycled content, Spectra aims to provide customers with a future-facing packaging solution that supports circularity without compromising quality or aesthetics.
