The since 1st of July last year new firmed adphos Innovative Technologies GmbH (AIT), which is part of the adphos-group, got the complimentary award in the context of the Bayerischen Energiepreises 2010 for the Project „Energy-efficient Heating of PET-Preforms with NIR-Technology”.    The heating of PET-Preforms, which are used for the production of beverage bottles, is energy- and time-efficiency with the NIR-technology compared to the conventional heating systems. Concerning the energy consumption the proven savings are more than 50 %, so a significant reduction of the energy consumption and a clearly reduction of the CO2-emission is possible. Furthermore the downsize of the line enables a resources providential production of the line. If the production of every needed beverage-bottle in Germany would be done with the NIR-based stretch blow molding machines, an annual energy consumption of about 50 million kWh (this represents the average yearly consumption of 50,000 federal citizens) and a reduction of the CO2-emission of about 20,000 t/a would be possible. The adphos Innovative GmbH owns all relevant process-engineering patents and sale rights, so the company has also in future a unique selling feature of using NIR-technology for energy efficiency thermal processing’s. A usage of the NIR-technology is also in other technical areas possible and brings a significant energy reduction. So drying and curing processes of coatings could be accelerated more than factor 1,000, so the process of hours could be reduced into seconds. So the necessary offline drying processes could be integrated directly into the line (inline). So a significant reduction of the energy consumption, production costs and footprint is possible. Even at locally given low gas costs (price/kWh) compared to the electrical energy, with the process and production optimization of the NIR-technology a reduction of the energy costs up to partially 30 % is possible. Considering the extra cost coming up for certification for the CO2-emission, the cost savings with the NIR-technology compared to gas fired thermal lines over 50 % can be reached, this enables an alternative investment of substitution of today’s gas fired process lines often in less than 24 moths. The adphos-group projected and researched industrial thermal process lines based on the NIR-technology. The application of the NIR-technology also is possible in the printing, plastics, automotive and steel industry an in the area paints and varnishes. The adphos-group works together in a network with more than 100 partners world wide to establish the NIR-Technology as a standard technology in thermal
