Gehl Foods, Inc., Germantown/Wisconsin, the nation’s (USA) most diversified low-acid, aseptic dairy facility, proudly unveils the KHS high-speed bottle filler at 600 bottles / minute, adding yet another packaging option to their fifteen low-acid, aseptic lines. The state-of-the-art filler has the capacity to fill 8–14 oz bottles addressing the growing demand for non-refrigerated dairy product and features a unique, re-sealable cap that avoids the foil seal method.
Beginning in 1970, Gehl’s has led the low-acid, aseptic manufacturing industry, pioneering the production and packaging of shelf-stable dairy products. “In the late 1960’s Gehl’s saw the need for fresh-tasting, shelf-stable dairy products that could be distributed via non-refrigerated channels,” said John P. Gehl, CEO. “At that time, we committed to becoming the leader of this category.”
In the 1980’s Gehl’s revolutionized the cheese sauce industry with the first bag-in-box cheese sauce and patented dispensing system. Since then, Gehl’s has added cans, cups, sticks, clear bags and foil pouches to their repertoire.
As today’s industry demands more re-sealable, single-serve, shelf-stable products, Gehl’s, in partnership with KHS, is positioned to take the lead in meeting that demand. “With the rising cost of refrigerated distribution, we are seeing even more desire for non-refrigerated products,” said Gehl. “Gehl’s plans to take advantage of that demand and remain the preferred leader in our industry.”
Gehl Foods, Inc. opened its doors in 1896 and today proudly owns and operates a 750,000 square foot facility located in Southeast Wisconsin. Gehl’s encompasses every type of low-acid, aseptic manufacturing process available today: steam infusion, steam injection, tube in tube, tube in shell and swept surface.
The aseptic filling system from KHS is the Innofill ACF System with a dry sterilization process using hydrogen peroxide. This isolated dry sterilization process features a complete range of customer advantages; an automated and protected operational and control system with easy monitoring of machine function parameters, a safe and repeatable sterilant application technology, along with the precise and consistent product, non contact filling system with high container throughput enabling an easy changeover via the administrative recipe control. The product range capability covers many beverages and consumer products: still mineral waters, fruit juices and fruit spritzers, as well as products requiring gentle handling - teas, wellness drinks, milk and mixed milk drinks, consumer product packaging of topical solutions and medications all in various package configurations such as PET and HDPE.
Along with the maximum level of hygienic security and HACCP control, the KHS ACF system provides an environmentally friendly method of reducing operating costs - zero water consumption for bottle and closure sterilization. (There is no waste water or water retreatment required during production.)
