Saint-Damien, Québec, Canada

IPL Inc. (TSX: IPI.A), one of North America's leading manufacturers of plastic products, announces the introduction of a new, thin-walled round packaging container with in-mold labelling (IML) graphics. Available in three sizes, the IML Round container is essentially aimed at the specialty dairy product category, which includes dips, sour cream, cream and cottage cheese, as well as specialty yogurts. In keeping with its strategic objective to design innovative high value-added products that help protect the environment, IPL developed a thin-walled container up to 10% lighter than its products currently manufactured using the injection moulding process. This weight reduction uses less plastic materials and lowers transportation costs. In addition, the new container is fully recyclable. The project requires a $4.3-million investment at IPL’s facility located in Edmundston, New-Brunswick, which includes the addition of an injection press, robots, as well as the development of moulds used to produce containers and lids. This new equipment will be fully operational in November 2008, although IML Round containers are already available in limited quantities.“IPL once again demonstrates its leadership in developing innovative technical solutions that fulfill immediate market needs,” said Serge Bragdon, President and Chief Executive Officer of IPL. “Appealing packaging is vital in the specialty product retail market and our IML Round container will stand out at point-of-sale through its unique characteristics. IPL can therefore establish a profitable niche in the North American specialty dairy product packaging market estimated at $200.0 million.”
