Practically all the major players in the field of PET strapping tape from throughout the world gathered to take part in an Open House, organised by SIMA and Gneuss and which took place from July 7th through 11th at SIMA factory – Bologna/Italy.
The latest innovation in the field of PET strapping tapes from 100 % PET bottle flake or other PET scrap was presented. This newly developed, revolutionary line concept is a result of the long and intensive cooperation between SIMA and Gneuß in this field, each company contributing its own experience and Know-How.
During the Open House, the visitors had the opportunity to see a PET strapping tape line (a further development of the SIMA technology, highly rated by strapping tape manufacturers world wide) running under production conditions, without any pre-treatment of the PET bottle flake. Thanks to the new, patented MRS® Multi Rotation System extruder from Gneuss, the flakes can be put straight into the extruder. Gneuss, the worldwide technology leader with regard to Melt Filtration Systems has set a milestone in the devolatilisation of polymer melts.

By the simplest and most cost efficient means, strapping tape was manufactured from 100 % PET bottle flake. Completely without any pre-drying or crystallisation, with one stage melt filtration and no additional melt pump.
The visitors were able to experience production of PET strapping tape at first hand with the MRS and see for themselves:
- Maximum energy efficiency due to the avoidance of pre-drying and crystallising. The moisture is removed in an energy efficient way under vacuum as vapour in the melt phase.
- Simple, rugged design with low space requirement
- Maximum line availability, minimum maintenance through reduction of the line complexity.
- Excellent strapping tape quality, even when heavily contaminated bottle flake was used.
The enthusiasm of the visitors showed (and the spontaneous sale of the line) was a reflected of the decisive advantages of this concept. SIMA and Gneuss are sure that this concept has the potential to take the market by storm.
