A dust extraction system has been developed by Lloyd Instruments for its LR50KPlus (50 kN) twin column universal materials testing machine. The system overcomes problems resulting either from the use of dusty samples or dust and small particulates produced during the testing process. The solution can also be adapted for other twin column material test machines from the Lloyd Instruments range.
Exposure to large quantities of dust and small particulates can impair the performance of the instrument. The solution involves the addition of a special filtered blower to the base of the instrument. This creates a positive pressure inside the base unit preventing the dust-laden atmosphere from entering. All cover joints around the base are also sealed.
A material testing machine modified in this way has been in use for more than a year and has successfully eliminated any ingress of dust. The filter element needs to be replaced or cleaned every 6 months.
The LR50KPlus is ideal for testing applications up to 50 kN (11241 lbf) and is designed equally for routine quality control testing and for performing complex multi-stage tests. The high stiffness frame incorporates a crosshead guidance system to prevent side loading of the test sample. Machine performance can be optimised using NEXYGENPlus material test and data analysis software providing almost unlimited testing capability and results processing features.
