Circularity Scotland: New industry alliance aims to administer Deposit Return Scheme

0:35 min
Edinburgh, United Kingdom

The Circularity Scotland website states that the new company is a nonprofit organisation seeking to operate as a scheme administrator for the upcoming introduction of the Scottish Deposit Return Scheme, which is planned for 2022.

Circularity Scotland's site further informs that under the DRS regulations passed by the Scottish Parliament in May 2020, drinks producers and importers can appoint a scheme administrator to fulfil the DRS obligations on their behalf.

With this aim the new organisation has been established by a combination of companies and trade associations representing their broader drinks producer and retail members.

The company claims that the goal on all parties is to establish a fit for purpose Deposit Return Scheme, that is ultimately expected to collect more than 90% of drinks containers in Scotland, and meet to prepare their legal obligations in the given timeframe.
