INVISTA, one of the world’s largest integrated polymers and fibers producers, is displaying containers made from PolyShield® resin to the North American beer industry for the first time at the Brewers Association Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo America, April 21-24, 2009.  INVISTA will sponsor and host a beer station that will be dispensing beer from PolyShield® resin kegs, located at booth 225, and exhibiting PolyShield® resin bottles and kegs at booths 227 and 229.“We are delighted to have the opportunity to introduce kegs made from PolyShield® resin to brewers in the United States,” said Frank Embs, new business development manager at INVISTA.  “In Europe, we have demonstrated PolyShield® resin performance in application for more than four years, which has resulted in commercial success. At the Craft Brewers Conference, attendees will have the opportunity to taste a variety of beers from Cape Ann Brewing Company in Gloucester, Mass., dispensed from PolyShield® resin kegs.”One-way kegs produced from PolyShield® resin/nylon-MXD6 blends, which are currently commercially available in Europe, are being introduced in North America to provide brewers with a more cost-effective option for packaging draught beer.  The consortium of KHS, the German based leading filling- and packaging-line producer, and Rexam Petainer, a Sweden based PET market leader for preforms and bottles manufacturing, have designed the innovative one-way PET keg to operate with existing filling and tapping systems, and offers a modular filling-line system, which can be adapted to brewing operations of any size. The advantages of PolyShield® resin have been proven in demanding consumer markets.  PolyShield® resin/nylon-MXD6 blends are used for monolayer beer bottles for premium beer brands.  PolyShield® resin features an active oxygen scavenging and passive carbonation barrier when combined with nylon-MXD6 and provides outstanding clarity for tinted bottles.PolyShield® resin can be processed on standard PET preform and bottle manufacturing equipment with only minor changes and with minimal additional investment. This technology provides a cost-effective solution to brand owners that need high-barrier PET packaging to protect and differentiate their products.PolyShield® resin/nylon-MXD6 blends are cleared for certain food packaging applications such as beer, wine, juice, and many other oxygen-sensitive foods under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Containers made from PolyShield® resin/nylon-MXD6 blends can be recycled into colored PET applications such as fiberfill and strapping.
