PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL) a leading global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, announced today the launch of its new anti-fog additive for biopolymers and transparent impact modifier for polylactic acid at Interpack 2008 (PolyOne: Hall 7 Stand AE20).
With these two new OnCapTM BIO additive concentrates, PolyOne demonstrates its leadership in developing solutions for the biopolymer processing offering, and provides one of the broadest bio-based portfolios for a range of processes and applications.
The anti-fog additive concentrate, OnCapTM BIO Anti-fog T, prevents the occurrence of fogging on the surface of film packaging, enhancing the shelf appearance of chilled, pre-packaged foods. By preventing the formation of small water droplets, OnCapTM BIO Anti-fog T also can extend product shelf-life by helping to prevent the deterioration of the food product itself. This advanced additive is based on 100 % renewable resources.
OnCapTM BIO Impact T is a transparent impact modifier masterbatch for polylactic acid (PLA) that increases the impact resistance of the base polymer while maintaining transparency. In addition to providing the desirable properties, the converters and brand owners realize the additional benefits of improved product handling, decreased product loss and increased safety with enhanced product appeal.
Both OnCapTM BIO Anti-fog T and OnCapTM Bio Impact T are globally available as a concentrated masterbatch or liquid form for use in PLA. Use rate depends on the end product structure (multilayer) and desired performance.
PolyOne has developed an extensive range of additives and color concentrates in solid and liquid form for use in biopolymers. These new concentrates will extend the existing OnColor™ BIO (color concentrates) and OnCapTM BIO (additive concentrates) portfolio. PolyOne’s current additives portfolio includes: slip, slip/antiblock, denesting, UV barrier, blue tone (to correct the yellowish effect of transparent biopolymers), mold release and antistatic concentrate. Standard colors are immediately available and specific custom colors can be developed on request.
