Modulomold™: A single mold, several bottle shapes

   To respond to productivity needs as well as the greater customization of packages, Sidel presents its new Modulomold™ technology (patent pending): several bottles of the same size (up to 0.7 liter) can be produced in a single mold using removable mold inserts, which ensure quick and simple changeovers. Beverages are increasingly diversified and event-related or collector’sedition bottles are becoming more distinctive therefore several bottle shapes are being produced for a single size. What can be done to improve production flexibility?One answer is to modify the shapes without changing molds. Sidel is launching its Modulomold™ molds and inserts in response to this growing market expectation. It’s a simple and intuitive solution for format changeovers, aimed at ensuring better production flexibility. The bottles have two shared parts, the labeling area and the base, and either one or two areas, the shoulder and/or the body, can be customized using the inserts. It takes less than 30 seconds to change a set of inserts, from opening the first mold to opening the second. Tool-free disassemblyIn contrast with screw-in mold inserts, Modulomold™ inserts are designed in accordance with the SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) methodology, so that they can be assembled and disassembled without tools. Easily identified by their color code, the inserts cannot be interchanged: red for the insert to be placed in the left half-mold, and green for the right. Once the mold support unit is in the open position in front of the operator, the color code is again shown in each half-mold. Finally, each numbered insert is kept in a specially designed box to ensure safety of transport and storage as well as good workstation ergonomics.
