Vittorio Veneto (TV), Italy

SIPA is one of the leading companies in the packaging sector thanks to its 360 degree experience in plastic container production systems ( 1-step systems, stretch-blow molding systems and preform injection machines). The company ensured innovative solutions and a container development global service: from bottle design to prototyping, from turn-key solutions to after sales service. In the packaging development, SIPA can offer solutions to increase technical and aesthetics container performance or providing solutions capable to reduce bottles and preforms production costs.SIPA provides complete packaging development: preform, bottle, closures, label and secondary packaging up to palletizing. Furthermore SIPA can ensure rapid container prototyping to verify bottle performance and complete line filling and handling simulation.CONTAINERS LIGHTWEIGHTING Most important for the company is the container lightweight without reducing its performance: SIPA solutions allow both body and neck finish weight reduction without the needs of any changes in the industrial filling line.Following some lightweight examples.STANDARD BOTTLES LIGHTWEIGHTINGIn standard container weight reduction, the most important achievement is the 10.9 g bottle for flat and sparkling water. A container featuring excellent technical performances and easy industrialization without any modification to the industrial filling line. Thanks to its great features it constitutes actually the cheapest bottles pack in the market for the capacity of 0.5 liters.Even if extremely light, this container can be packed in 24 bottles-pack with plastic shrink-wrapping film, allowing for a 20 times lower cost compared to carton pack required from other lightweight bottles today in the market.HOT FILL CONTAINERS LIGHTWEIGHTING Thanks to its complete know-how of the process and to the development of a special preform/bottle/neck finish design, SIPA was able to reduce 20% of the weight for hot fill containers allowing for a 30% productivity increase. In this project SIPA took in consideration both cost reduction and performance optimization paying particular attention to the neck finish (in order to prevent deformation on the top and guaranteeing the cap sealing), reinforcing the bottom with special ribs and providing a special design of the bottle body that, even if very light compared with standard, can absorb the vacuum after the hot filling phase without deformations.BIG SIZE CONTAINERS LIGHTWEIGHTING Among the last container developments SIPA developed a 5 liters container with 38 mm neck finish and a weight of only 74 g (the actual standard is around 80g).Filled with the addition of nitrogen the pack can be palletize in 5 layers (the standard is 4 layers) with a consequent cost saving of 15%.PASTEURIZABLE COATED BEER CONTAINERSWith a constant attention to the product to be filled, SIPA continues its development of special and innovative solutions to guarantee the longer product shelf life.In the last months the company developed new PET containers for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer with external barrier coating in order to enhance gas barrier. The coated containers can withstand 65° C pasteurization for 15 minutes. This is possible also thanks to the development of a special petaloid bottom.SIPA developed and tested 350 ml, 500 ml, 1 l e 1,5 l bottle sizes and tanks to the patented SmartcoatTM coating they can guarantee an excellent oxygen and carbon dioxide barrier allowing a shelf life from 6 to 9 months. For the PCO 28 mm neck finish of those containers, plastic Bericap caps with Oxygen Scavengers can be used.

In the packaging development, SIPA can offer solutions to increase technical and aesthetics container performance or providing solutions capable to reduce bottles and preforms production costs.

SIPA provides complete packaging development: preform, bottle, closures, label and secondary packaging up to palletizing. Furthermore SIPA can ensure rapid container prototyping to verify bottle performance and complete line filling and handling simulation.

CONTAINERS LIGHTWEIGHTING
Most important for the company is the container lightweight without reducing its performance: SIPA solutions allow both body and neck finish weight reduction without the needs of any changes in the industrial filling line.
Following some lightweight examples.

STANDARD BOTTLES LIGHTWEIGHTING
In standard container weight reduction, the most important achievement is the 10.9 g bottle for flat and sparkling water. A container featuring excellent technical performances and easy industrialization without any modification to the industrial filling line. Thanks to its great features it constitutes actually the cheapest bottles pack in the market for the capacity of 0.5 liters.
Even if extremely light, this container can be packed in 24 bottles-pack with plastic shrink-wrapping film, allowing for a 20 times lower cost compared to carton pack required from other lightweight bottles today in the market.

HOT FILL CONTAINERS LIGHTWEIGHTING
Thanks to its complete know-how of the process and to the development of a special preform/bottle/neck finish design, SIPA was able to reduce 20% of the weight for hot fill containers allowing for a 30% productivity increase. In this project SIPA took in consideration both cost reduction and performance optimization paying particular attention to the neck finish (in order to prevent deformation on the top and guaranteeing the cap sealing), reinforcing the bottom with special ribs and providing a special design of the bottle body that, even if very light compared with standard, can absorb the vacuum after the hot filling phase without deformations.

BIG SIZE CONTAINERS LIGHTWEIGHTING
Among the last container developments SIPA developed a 5 liters container with 38 mm neck finish and a weight of only 74 g (the actual standard is around 80g).
Filled with the addition of nitrogen the pack can be palletize in 5 layers (the standard is 4 layers) with a consequent cost saving of 15%.

PASTEURIZABLE COATED BEER CONTAINERS
With a constant attention to the product to be filled, SIPA continues its development of special and innovative solutions to guarantee the longer product shelf life.
In the last months the company developed new PET containers for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer with external barrier coating in order to enhance gas barrier. The coated containers can withstand 65° C pasteurization for 15 minutes. This is possible also thanks to the development of a special petaloid bottom.
SIPA developed and tested 350 ml, 500 ml, 1 l e 1,5 l bottle sizes and tanks to the patented SmartcoatTM coating they can guarantee an excellent oxygen and carbon dioxide barrier allowing a shelf life from 6 to 9 months. For the PCO 28 mm neck finish of those containers, plastic Bericap caps with Oxygen Scavengers can be used.
