KHS at Interpack

Dortmund, Germany

At Interpack 2008, KHS AG, international manufacturer of filling and packaging systems for the beverage, food, and non-food sectors, will be presenting innovations specifically addressing market requirements.  The focus is on new technical solutions for the handling of pouch packages, a new version of the modular packer for disposable packaging, and the wrap-around packer especially designed for the entry and medium capacity ranges.Just recently in particular, consumers have increasingly come to discover the benefits of pouch packaging.  Not only because they are visually attractive, but because they are convenient as well.  From the point of view of the food, beverage, and non-food sectors, pouch packaging enjoys the ecological advantage of using very little packaging materials, besides the extensive economic plus factors.  Experts expect a future growth in pouch packaging of about 10 percent annually.   With its Innopouch K tubular bag machine, KHS presents a system that is able to manufacture pouch packaging as well as fill products.  This new KHS tubular bag machine operates using either flat film webs or fills ready-to-use bags.  Fin-seal bags and stand-up pouches of various sizes can be processed at a maximum machine output of 110 pouches/minute in single mode and 220 pouch/minute in duplex mode. Because the machine works horizontally, the fin seals of the pouch packs satisfy the most demanding sealing requirements.  Thus, maximum possible packaging safety is ensured even for the most sensitive products such as pharmaceuticals.   Another innovation in pouch packaging pertains to the new KHS packer concept.  The continuous mode of operation of the packer ensures the gentlest possible handling of pouches.  The pouch packages come pre-smoothed in readied cartridges.  The pouches are conveyed hanging.  Servo technology is used to exactly position the cartridges above the empty cartons, which are open at the top. Packages slide into the carton and are positioned while standing.  The new packer includes all kinds of flexibility.  Increased output when needed is equally possible as is the integration of new pouch packaging designs to be incorporated into the range of products.  This adaptation to new situations is always completely oriented towards individual requirements. Thanks to new developments in the area of pouch packaging, KHS is now also a complete provider and turnkey supplier in the pouch-packaging sector.  From form/fill/seal machines, to the pouch packaging system, right to the carton packaging and palletizing program, the KHS product line includes everything.Furthermore, with its Innopack Kisters Advanced tray shrink packer, KHS is presenting at the Interpack a completely redesigned, and in many aspects more refined, packaging machine in the modular product series.  The new Advanced line, which in the future will address the shrink packer, pad shrink packer, and wrap-around packer as well, includes a uniform design of function modules for modular packaging technology starting with outputs of 35 cycles/minute up to 135 cycles/minute.  Thanks to the complete harmonization of the product range from various capacity ranges, changeover of packaging equipment in the future will be even simpler, quicker, and above all unrestricted.  Thus, the technical solution can simply grow together with the requirements of the plant operator.  The integration of additional equipment, such as leaflet inserters, film perforators, partition inserters, tray staplers, etc., is possible, as is conversion of existing technology for newly defined task areas.  During harmonization of the product range, we have placed particular emphasis on user friendliness, hygiene, and spare part stock keeping.  The cubic design of the machine housing offers a perfect, unobstructed view inside the machine in addition to optimum accessibility.  For reasons of hygiene, new, easily cleaned component carrier systems have been integrated.  KHS has developed a format adjustment system, which can be automated at different levels to simplify changeover.  This system provides everything from manual changeover for simple packaging tasks to fully automated changeover for complex packaging tasks, thereby offering users the optimum solution in each case.  The newly developed film cutting, feed, and wrapping station allows safe handling of even thinner and wider film, right up to and including the high-capacity range.  By using cog belts, noise levels and maintenance costs have been reduced even further.  Apart from all these aspects, once this product range harmonization process is completed the new Advanced line will offer numerous additional benefits including user-friendly central suspension of smoothly interconnected guide rails, the scalable sectioning unit equipped with up to four servo drives for extremely high output, the use of the latest in maintenance-friendly servo technology, and much, much more.Together with the introduction of the new Advanced line, KHS is also presenting a new generation of shrink tunnels, which next to the usual electrical operation can also be operated economically and ecologically with gas.  Depending on location, the user can save up to 50 percent on power costs and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 60 percent. The new Innopack Kisters WP 030 wrap-around packer, designed especially for the entry and medium output ranges in the food, beverage, and non-food sectors, will be on display at the Interpack.  The Innopack Kisters WP 030, with an output of up to 30 cycles/minute, is able to optionally package both wrap-around and tray packages.  Whether the products to be packaged are cans, jars, glass and PET bottles, or prepackaged units from the beverage, food, or non-food sectors, the Innopack Kisters WP 030 is capable of handling them all.  High flexibility and user friendliness, along with its compact design are characteristic of this newly designed packer concept.Hall 5 Booth G 37/J 38
