KHS GmbH Dortmund, Germany

Comprehensive, integrated system and solution concepts offer the beverage industry a wide range of advantages.  This is the slogan under which KHS AG, international manufacturer of filling and packaging equipment for the beverage, food and non-food industries, will present itself at Brau Beviale 2008.The companies of the former SIG Beverages Group, which were acquired by Salzgitter AG earlier this year, were incorporated into the Klöckner Group as of August 1, 2008.  This means that as a 100% subsidiary of Klöckner-Werke AG, KHS AG will now operate as a unit together with KHS Corpoplast, KHS Plasmax, KHS Asbofill, and KHS Moldtec. The PET technology of the newly affiliated companies stands for Bottles & Shapes™ design and engineering, Blomax stretch blow molders, Plasmax barrier coatings, and Asbofill providing flexible, linear aseptic filling concepts for sensitive products. The KHS Group now offers services ranging from the development of PET bottle designs to packing and palletizing equipment, covering all the components required on a PET filling and packaging line.  All from one source is the motto here – a slogan which will be further underlined by the first joint appearance of the companies at Brau Beviale.Under the heading of Life Cycle Solutions, Brau Beviale will also be providing KHS with a forum for the first time to present a complete package of individually customizable, modular services, which complement its full range of line equipment.  The idea is to act as a partner for beverage companies throughout the whole life cycle of filling and packaging lines and to offer much more than technical systems consisting of just iron and steel.  KHS provides its customers with advice and support on all aspects and during all phases of the process, ranging from the initial idea to the investment and operation phases up to and including the decision to deinvest.  Life Cycle Solutions combine conventional after-sale services with innovative new service and consultancy concepts.  The focus is always on ensuring maximum production efficiency.  At Brau Beviale 2008, KHS will be focusing on productivity solutions as part of its Life Cycle Solutions concept, with particular emphasis on system optimization from a holistic perspective and the key component of intralogistics.  When it comes to system optimization, machine equipment continues to play an important role, although analyses of associated processes are becoming increasingly significant; examples of this include providing packaging material, coordinating operating staff – and so on and so forth.  KHS scrutinizes all those aspects, which can influence line efficiency either directly or indirectly, thereby offering the so very important all-round consultancy service.Another innovation to be presented by KHS for the first time at Brau Beviale 2008 is the new KHS party keg alignment system.  The reason for this development is the increasing popularity of party kegs, which are not only convenient but also offer users the enjoyment of tapping their own beer!  A party keg alignment system for 5-liter party kegs is already implemented as a pilot project.  The task in this case is to align 5-liter party kegs with taps or recessed handles before they are placed in secondary packaging.  The 5-liter party kegs in question are the types preferred by the brewing sector. The first step in the alignment system is exact recognition of specific party keg characteristics, such as recessed handles and taps, using a high-resolution digital color camera.  Each keg is then individually aligned according to its particular characteristics through calculated control of the belt clamping conveyor.  The new KHS party keg alignment system is an intelligent system.  The application of neural networks in digital image processing enables highly flexible responses to changing requirements.  Quick and simple adaptation of the conveyor belts to new conditions is achieved by vertical and parallel adjustment to the clamping belts. The new KHS party keg alignment system is designed to handle up to 700 5-liter party kegs per hour.  The party keg alignment system is very compact and can easily be integrated into existing lines.Hall 5, Booth 127

Comprehensive, integrated system and solution concepts offer the beverage industry a wide range of advantages.  This is the slogan under which KHS AG, international manufacturer of filling and packaging equipment for the beverage, food and non-food industries, will present itself at Brau Beviale 2008.
