Eastman Chemical Company announced today that Eastman Tritan™ copolyester received a favorable opinion for use in contact with food from the Food Directorate of Canada’s federal health department, Health Canada. Tritan™, a new-generation copolyester, is used in a broad range of applications, including housewares and appliances.Eastman Tritan™ copolyester delivers the advantages of traditional copolyesters, such as clarity and toughness, with higher heat and chemical resistance, improved design flexibility, and ease of processing.“Products that come into contact with food and beverages must undergo stringent safety testing and review prior to clearance for use,” said Deborah Baum Crain, director of copolyester innovation, Eastman Chemical Company. “We are pleased to have Health Canada join the list of governmental agencies that have deemed this innovative product acceptable from a chemical safety standpoint for use in specified food contact applications.”Consumer interest is growing for plastic products that are tough, clear and have enhanced dishwasher durability. Products molded with Eastman Tritan™ copolyester can be repeatedly washed without the crazing, cracking or hazing that can result from continual exposure to high heat and aggressive cleaning agents.“We are focused on responding to evolving consumer needs for differentiated, higher-performance products, and are pleased that Eastman Tritan™ copolyester has been embraced in the marketplace,” said Baum Crain. “The favorable opinion from Health Canada is another acknowledgement of our commitment to providing products that meet stringent internal and external review and testing.”
